However, with the development of technology, the life of lead-acid batteries has become longer and maintenance has become easier.
The most obvious feature of a lead-acid battery is that it has a plastic sealing cover that can be unscrewed on the top and a vent hole on it. These filling caps are used for filling pure water, checking electrolyte and exhaust gas. According to theory, lead-acid batteries should be checked for the density and liquid level of the electrolyte during each maintenance. If there is a shortage, distilled water should be added. However, with the upgrading of battery manufacturing technology, lead-acid batteries have developed into lead-acid maintenance-free batteries and colloidal maintenance-free batteries, and there is no need to add electrolyte or distilled water in the use of lead-acid batteries. The important thing is that the oxygen generated in the positive electrode can be absorbed in the negative electrode to reach the oxygen cycle, which can prevent the reduction of moisture. Lead-acid water batteries are mostly used in tractors, tricycles, automobile starting, etc., while maintenance-free lead-acid batteries have a wider range of applications, including uninterruptible power supplies, electric vehicle power, electric bicycle batteries, and so on. According to the application, lead-acid batteries are divided into constant current discharge (such as uninterruptible power supply) and instantaneous discharge (such as car start batteries).
Classification of lead-acid batteries
1. Ordinary battery
The plates of ordinary batteries are made of lead and lead oxides, and the electrolyte is an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid. Its important advantages are stable voltage and low price; the disadvantages are low specific energy (that is, the electric energy stored per kilogram of battery), short service life and frequent routine maintenance.
2. Dry charge battery
Its full name is dry-type charged lead-acid battery. Its important feature is that the negative plate has a high power storage capacity. In a completely dry state, it can save the obtained power within two years. When using it, only need to add electrolysis It can be used after 2030 minutes.
3. Maintenance-free battery
Due to its structural advantages, the maintenance-free battery consumes a very small amount of electrolyte, so basically do not add distilled water during the service life. It also has the characteristics of shock resistance, high temperature resistance, small size, and small self-discharge. The service life is generally twice that of ordinary batteries. There are also two types of maintenance-free batteries on the market: the first is to add electrolyte once at the time of purchase, and then do not maintain it during use (add supplementary fluid); the other is that the battery itself has been filled with electrolyte and sealed when it leaves the factory. The user cannot add refill at all.
How to see the lead-acid battery model
According to the mechanical industry standard JB2599-1985 "Methods for the preparation of lead-acid battery product models", the lead-acid battery model consists of three parts, and the content and arrangement are as follows:
Number of batteries in series, battery type, battery characteristics, battery capacity:
1. Number of batteries connected in series
The number of cells in series refers to the number of cells in the battery assembly, which is represented by an Arabic numeral.
2. Battery type
According to its important use, it is represented by a Chinese pinyin letter, and the starter type lead-acid battery is represented by Q, and the code Q is the first Chinese pinyin letter. (M is a battery for motorcycles, JC is a battery for ships, HK is a battery for aviation, D is a battery for electric vehicles, and F is a valve-regulated battery.)
3. Battery characteristics
The battery feature is an additional part, which is represented by a Chinese pinyin letter. It is only used when the products of the same purpose have certain characteristics and the model must be differentiated. When the product has two characteristics at the same time, the two codes shall be marked in parallel according to the order of Table 2-2.
4. Rated capacity
Rated capacity refers to the rated capacity of 20h discharge rate, expressed in Arabic numerals, and the unit is Ah, which can be omitted in the model number. Sometimes a letter is used after the rated capacity to indicate special performance, such as G for high starting rate, S for plastic housing, and D for good low temperature starting. To make the battery system more reliable, the first step is to select the battery correctly. UPS and communication batteries are different in design: some batteries have better cycle characteristics; some batteries are suitable for starting; some batteries are suitable for low-temperature environments; Some batteries are suitable for small current discharge and so on.
When choosing a battery, it is very necessary to understand the differences between the processes and the use of various batteries.
